JOHNSTONE'S PAINT REVIEW

Exeter City will join Yeovil Town in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after defeating Plymouth Argyle on penalties.

The fourth meeting between the two Devon rivals in the space ended a goal apiece after 90 minutes after Argyle winger Luke Daley cancelled out James Dunne's opener for the Grecians.

This ensured that the tie would go to penalties and Daniel Nardiello, David Noble and Dunne successfully converted their spot-kicks to ensure the Grecians' passage to the next round. Goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley also emerged as a hero for Exeter, saving penalties from Argyle captain Carl Fletcher and Tom Hitchcock. Young Grecians' striker Chris Shepherd also had his penalty saved by Pilgrims' keeper Romain Larrieu.

Elsewhere, Torquay United also bowed out of the competition as they were beaten 2-1 by Cheltenham Town at Whaddon Road. Goals from Jimmy Spencer and Jeff Goulding set the Robins on their way before Lloyd Macklin pulled one back for the Gulls.
